Sovereigns @ Spot+?

What do you usually pay for sovereigns? They seem to be a semi-bullion coin, though the pre-@1890 and 1979+ ones seem harder to get. (In the case of the latter, the mint sells the all or mostly in proof, presentation-type boxes at a high markup). I have paid anywhere from Spot+3% to +15% for them. EBay has rolls of 20, 40 or 50 now and then but the most I've bought at once is ten. Chard in the UK sells rolls of 20-30-40 at Spot+15% so I think EBay is NOT SO BAD! I got five of them, 1894-1900, last night for +4.5%. Whenever we can get a collectible old coin at that price, why not? I have to pay +6% here at the bank for Aussie Kangaroos and Maple Leafs...!:applause_

they have them for 3.3% over spot and free shipping when you buy
at least 12 of them.

these are 1.5% over spot plus shipping with quantity of 50 or more.

Of late, I've been loading up on those old 1 and 2 rand gold coins as well as sovreigns. Lately, around $175 at Apmex.com.

Thanks...but this "APMEX" doesn't sell to the rest of the world, only N. America. Good price but they must be recent bullion coins - I'll quite happily pay +4.5% for 100-120 year old ones.

1-2 Rand coins? How old are they? What do they look like? Thanks!

Re: Sovereigns @ Spot+?

APMEX usually sells a mixture of Kings and Queens, many of which date back 100 years and more. All Sovereigns in the U.S. are considered bullion for the most part, unless they are especially rare dates. We usually see them at coin shows for spot, sometimes a little under spot. If you like, want, or need fractionals, Sovereigns, Roosters, and Helvetias are probably your best bet as they are the most popular world-wide. Dealer spreads are weighted to the down side, i.e. they sell near spot but buy back at several dollars under spot.

Thanks aunuggets! Well, since I live in a small town in a nowhere part of the gold world, EBay is still best bet...I did get a 1914-C sovereign off EBay Live Auctions two weeks ago for US$1400. I checked Chard in Liverpool, UK and they were selling same coin @GBP750 - and that was the OLD price. It had a mintage of 14,900 only.
